More Hussar Sabretaches from BattleFlags

BattleFlags have been busy and have now 'filled in the gaps' in last weeks initial release, so now they have sabretaches for all 14 French Hussar regiments.

You may notice that some of the range have the tenue de campagne sabretache (i.e. the black ones) and others are the grande tenue (i.e. the fancy ones), the range will be extended to cover both as they source reliable information (good luck with that!) as Richard comments "I want to create as much choice as possible for the gamer and collector within the Battle Flag range".

Given that we know that the Hussars have a tendency for 'anything goes' in regards to their uniform a mix of tenue de campagne and grande tenue regiments, whilst maybe not completely accurate, works for me, after all Napoleonics should be fun and not boring!

Just to recap, these are designed to specifically fit the Perry 28mm Plastic Hussars. A set includes 14 sabretaches and saddle rolls and goes for GBP3.00.

As a bonus BattleFlag are currently offering to anyone who states that they are followers or readers of this blog, at point of order, free world wide shipping on all purchases of over 5.00GBP. You can't complain about that can you!

Battle Flags - Perry Hussar Sabretache and Saddle Roll Number Decals

Earlier this week I hinted that their was another supplier of Sabretaches waiting in the wings, well that was BattleFlags and as Richard explains they have been somewhat delayed due to ill health but today they are ready and have stepped forward and released their first sets of Sabretaches.

From their announcement:
New 28mm French Hussar Sabretache Transfers and Decals
I have just about recovered from a bout of pneumonia of all things, hence the rather slow output of late. But now mended I will be cracking on apace.

Just before I took ill I was about to release sabretache and saddle roll Regimental number sets for Perry’s excellent Plastic Hussars. One set of transfers provides enough waterslide transfers for wargamers to decal a complete boxed set.

The sabretaches are rather prominent and an elaborate feature on the hussars and these transfers allow the wargamer to create an excellent focal point on each figure.

Battle Flags wargame transfers will give superb results every time with uniformity and detail just not possible with a paintbrush. As with all our transfers they are true waterslide decals making them extremely simple to attach. Simply cut out, soak for 20-30 seconds and slide into place.

The saddle roll numbers just add that final touch for a superb finish to your miniature.

You can purchase these and any other transfers or flags from the Battle Flag range at www.wargametransfers.com or www.battle-flag.com

They look really great and you can expect a lot more to come from Battle Flags in the very near future. I think the one sheet per regiment makes sense from a user perspective.

It's pretty amazing that in one week we go from no sabretache decals to having two different suppliers! Great work from both companies I think.

Battle Flag solves the issue of painting Tartan

BattleFlag have announced a new product and this is a one that I think will make a big difference for Napoleonic fans.

28mm Napoleonic
British Highland Regimental Tartan
Waterslide Transfer Kits

One of the hardest things to do when painting 28mm figures is painting Tartan, unless you are a very skilled painter it always tends to look a complete mess, I have given up trying and have a couple of boxes of Victrix highlanders sitting unopened in a cupboard.

Well what if you could buy a tartan transfer?

OK so I hear you say well great but it won't fit properly on my figures and I well have to mess around trying to trim it into the right shape and it will end up looking worse than if I painted it.

Well what if the tartan was designed specifically for your Victrix figures, you wouldn't need to mess around then.

Hard to believe?

Just take a look at these pictures.

Overnight any muppet can now 'paint' Tartan just like an expert.

I was gobsmacked when I saw these, think many people will be as well.

Quoting Richard Lowles of Battle-Flag.
I am sure that there are many gamers who have always wanted to field Scottish Regiments in their British Napoleonic wargame armies. But like me have felt that their skill with a paint brush just wasn’t up to the task of painting model soldier tartan in 28mm wargame scale. With Battle Flags latest series of transfer kits for the Victrix 28mm plastic Highlanders getting tartan right on your wargame miniature is no longer a problem.

I was attached to the Argyles and Sutherland Highlanders back in 1984-85 on a tour in Belfast, Northern Ireland and have admired the buggers ever since. The problem was always doing the tartan justice. Ended up looking more like modern dispersed camo than Highland plaid. Transfers are the best way to go with kilts and the sock tops and bonnet band are really effective. I dont know about you but this would be impossible for me with a paintbrush in 28mm.

The Gordon Highlanders are the first series of kilt kits to see release with the Cameron’s and the Black Watch to follow over the next couple of weeks.

The Napoleonic Highlander waterslide decal kits come with enough transfers to deck out five wargame model soldiers in full tartan. Each sheet is numbered so as to correspond with the sprue number of the figure in the Victrix Napoleonic Highlanders box; so Cameron sheet B1 is designed for the five B1 models contained in the box, B2 for the B2 numbered models and so on.

Each of the five figure waterslide decal kits comes complete with transfers for kilts, bonnet bands, sock tops, water canteen and backpack Regimental number. Everything a wargamer need to make his Scottish Soldiers stand out on the wargames table.

As with all Battle Flags transfers these are very simple to apply. Simply cut the transfer out of the sheet, soak in water for 20-30 seconds and apply.

Our ultra thin transfers are very easy to slide into place and fold to the shape of the model and dry out to approximately a paint layer thick for a superb finish.

The first five sets for the Gordon Highlanders are available to order now. More than enough for a complete 24 fig Regiment.

All the difficult work that tends to put people off is now in a transfer. I also include a spare swatch of tartan to allow the modeller to fix any mistakes, although to be fair the process is very straight forward. I will be adding a tutorial very soon

They are priced at GBP3.00 plus shipping for a pack of five designed for Gordon Highlanders 92nd Regiment of Foot.

For more info and to purchase click here

Run, don't walk, I would think these could sell out quick!

Now if you looked closely at the pics above you may have noticed the regimental numbers on the canteen and backpack. Wouldn't it be nice if we could get those for other regiments?

Canteens and Regimental numbers are straightforward to do so if you, or indeed anyone who reads your blog, want them just email me and I will do a set of 30 for 3.00 GBP (+P&P) any Regimental Number.

Flags of War - New Flags, New Website

Flags of War have some new flags and a new website (must be catching).

Hi Guys

Just to let you know that we now have a new website. With the site growing beyond what I thought it would and the reputation of it growing as well we have moved to a more advanced style of site which is far easier to use for customers.

We have a added a few new flags including Prussian Landwehr with loads more in the wings ready to go on the site soon.

Keep an eye on the site for some competions we will have over the next couple of months with some fantastic painted mini to give away. Why not go on the site and sign up for our newsletter that will be sent very soon.

http://www.flagsofwar.com

Thanks

Prussian Landwehr flags do look nice! The Flags of War Napoleonic range has over 150 flags covering British (inc KGL), French (inc Suisse, Prusse), Russian, Prussian and Portugese units.

Somewhere in the post at the moment (I hope) are some KGL Flags I ordered from them a couple of weeks back, looking forward to seeing these. Got to practice curling flags lol.

So What Flags Do You Really Want?

Flags of War are asking, so what is your answer?

From their announcement.
Have you ever thought why can i not get a certain unit flag or flags from a Period that you have not seen anywhere else?

We are just a small team, well just me really and I sometimes find myself doing one new range of flags for the website and then start on another that has taken our interest that week. This means that I probably have plans for a range that someone wants but our focus get's taken away from.

Help us help you by telling us what you want. Tell us what flags you want to see on the site or think that others might want and we will alway stive to get them done. It might also make me focus them.

Thanks

Flags of War
Post your thoughts here if you wish or on the Flags of War blog

If you do suggest something I think you should make it something you would actually buy and not related to the War of Jenkins Ear.

For me, think I will have to mull this over, but battalion Fanions are something which don't get much coverage. Also with Victrix and Perry having Austrians on the horizon and with the 200th of 1813-1814 coming up there is some obvious demand.

FYI Postage is up at Flags of War:
Previously we have always charged the same for International Payments. With the increase in International order we have had to add a seperate postage option for International buyers. This will add an extra £1.25 onto the order making the Postage cost £2.25.
Don't gripe, it's a fact of life these days, the Royal Mail once was good AND cheap, now they seem to be specialising in the inverse. Every time I get a package from the UK these days I am really shocked at the price and the service is a lot slower than it was. Not that I blame the guys working at RM, it's the people that fund them.

And now it's Battle Flags turn....

It must be an arms race or something. The now almost daily flag announcement, this time it's Battle-Flags who have rejigged their line a bit. I really am going to have to find something else to blog about next!!!

As you might recall I mentioned previously that Battle-Flags sell their Waterloo range by 'Brigade', which is quite handy if you are in the market for a full brigade (as I happen to be at the moment) but not so useful when you aren't and to be honest more often than not in 28mm we don't build full brigades that match one particular OB, I mean does anyone really have a Guards Brigade in 28mm?

Anyway they have listened and seems you can now buy the flags by Regiment.

Coincidentally I was speaking yesterday to Richard Lowles (the guy behind Battle-Flags) about whether he might have some KGL flags in the pipeline (he does!) and seems there is plenty more exciting stuff to come from Battle-Flags in the near future, so stay tuned as they say.

Anyway for your edification.....
I am pleased to announce, following the numerous requests from wargamers, that the British Napoleonic 28mm flags are now available on two flag Regimental plates.

This release of 28mm flags from Battle Flag sees the first sixteen British Napoleonic Regiments in the series given the Kings and Regimental Colours:

BNW01: 1st Batt. 1st Foot Guards Regt. (28mm Flags: Kings & Regt. Colour)
BNW02: 3rd Batt.1st Foot Guards Regt. (28mm Flags: Kings & Regt.Colour)
BNW03: 2nd (Coldstream) Foot Guards Regt. (28mm Flags: Kings & Regt. Colour)
BNW04: 3rd (Scots) Foot Guards Regt (28mm Flags: Kings & Regt. Colour)
BNW05: 30th (Cambridgeshire) Foot (28mm Flags: Kings & Regt. Colour)

BNW06: 33rd (1st West Riding) Foot (28mm Flags: Kings & Regt. Colour)
BNW07: 69th (South Lincoln) Foot (28mm Flags: Kings & Regt. Colour)
BNW08: 73rd (Highland) Foot (28mm Flags: Kings & Regt. Colour)
BNW09: 2/35th (Sussex) Foot (28mm Flags: Kings & Regt. Colour)
BNW10: 1/54th (West Norfolk) Foot (28mm Flags: Kings & Regt. Colour)
BNW11: 59th (2nd Nottinghamshire) (28mm Flags: Kings & Regt. Colour)
BNW12: 1/91st Foot (28mm Flags: Kings & Regt. Colour)
BNW13: 4th (Kings Own) Foot (28mm Flags: Kings & Regt. Colour)

BNW14: 27th (Inniskilling) Foot (28mm Flags: Kings & Regt. Colour)
BNW16: 81st Foot Foot (28mm Flags: Kings & Regt. Colour)

The flags are, as with all of the Battle Flag range printed using archival quality inks and papers to ensure lasting brilliance and value for money.

These flags are created using Battle Flags “living silk” design process which creates the illusion of scale silk blowing in the wind. A great effect that adds real atmosphere to your figures whether on the gaming table or in your display cabinet

To purchase these, or indeed any other flags from Battle Flags growing range of model flags in 28mm (other scales available), go to our secure online shop by clicking www.battle-flag.com

Just to be clear, you can still buy the Brigade packs, which contain the flags for 4 units at GBP7.50, the new individual Regiment packs at GBP1.95 are only an 'option'.

I have made my mind up to buy flags from both 'Battle-Flags' and 'Flags of War' for my new Waterloo Brigades, it will give me a chance to compare them, I would have considered 'Flags for the Lads' who is another flag lunatic but he doesn't seem to do Waterloo (but you should see his 1812 range!!).

Flags of War - New 28mm British Napoleonic

Yes I know "yet another flag update", sorry about that but at the moment work (i.e. what pays the bills) is stopping me from finishing off a few articles of my own, and the 28mm Napoleonic market seems to have gone quiet this month, except for the flag guys who must all be on drugs or something given the volume of releases!!

Anyway......

There is nothing like a deadline to spur you one and for "Flags of War" a commitment to supply flags to the Scarborough Wargames Club for their World Record Game of the Battle of Salamanca attempt (we mentioned this several months back on the blog) has resulted in the release of large number of new flags.

I was recently contacted by the guys from Scarborough Wargames Club who were trying to attempt a World Record Game of the Battle of Salamanca. They asked if I could supply the flags for it which I duly obliged. Then I seen I only had a handful of the regiments so I had my work cut out for me to get them done within a week.

Thankfully I got all the flags done in time for them but sadly they were not able to break the record. Better luck next year and we hope you have more support.

Here are the new additions to the website:

BNW48 Kings German Legion 2nd Battalion
BNW49 Kings German Legion 3rd Battalion
BNW50 Kings German Legion 4th Battalion
BNW51 Kings German Legion 5th Battalion

That's a pretty big release and maybe quite timely for me, I have just received the latest reinforcements from MMPS which includes the KGL 1st Brigade and the British 6th Brigade so I am in the market for some flags!

GMB and Victrix are very nice (and I do have a lot of GMB flags already) but they are quite expensive when you are buying flags for 8 units, Battle Flags are interesting, but currently only do the British and not the KGL, though buying flags 'by Brigade' is quite appealing, but now Flags of War have the lot. I might buy from both Battle Flags and Flags of War to do a comparison.

Battle Flags - Napoleonic Russian 1797 Pattern flags

Competition in the Flags market is really hot these days, it's hard to remember that there was a time when all flags were home made, and even in the recent past Napoleonic Flags used to mean just GMB!

Well last week it was Flags of War now this week it's the turn of Battle Flags to release some new Russian 28mm Flags, as yet only 1797 pattern but I am sure that more will follow with the Perry's having announced they will release late Russians (at some point!).

From their announcement:
The latest 28mm flags from Battle Flag sees the release of the long promised )1797 pattern wargame flags for the Russian Army of the early Napoleonic period. (See the September 2009 posting for more details)

15 beautifully detailed plates allow the wargamer to add both the white (Colonel’s) and the colored (Regimental) standards to their Russian wargame Regiments.

Using Battle Flag’s stunning “living silk” effect these flags are designed to create the impression that they are mde of real silk blowing in the wind. This effect gives the model army much greater visual appeal whether on the wargames table or in the display cabinet.

As with all Battle Flags range of wargame and collectors flags they are printed using only archival quality inks and papers for superb quality and lasting value.

Each set is GBP1.85 and the range currently comprises of the following sets:
Leib Grenadier
Grenadier Ekaterinoslav
Grenadier Caucacus
Grenadier Astrakhan
Musketeer Regiment Nachebourg
Musketeer Regiment Narva
Musketeer Regiment Neva
Musketeer Regiment Riazsk
Musketeer Regiment Viborg
Musketeer Regiment Tomsk
Musketeer Regiment Rialsk
Musketeer Regiment Moscow
Musketeer Regiment Riazan
Musketeer Regiment Poltava

For more info click here

Not sure what the "living silk" effect really looks like in the flesh, would be interesting to do a comparison of flags at some point, in the mean time you pays your money and you takes your choice but we are spoilt for choice these days.

Flags of War update - Portugese, French and Russian Napoleonics

I just heard from Flags of War that they have recently added some Portugese and French Napoleonic Flags to their existing British range. They also mentioned that they have completed some Russian 1797 and 1803 Patterns which will be uploaded soon, so stay tuned.

I think the Portugese were released back in March, so whilst this may not be exactly 'new' news, it hadn't come up on my radar before so maybe neither has it on on yours.

Additionally it appears they are also running a buy two get one free deal which makes them a real bargain, you can't argue with that can you.

To briefly recap, Flags of War make several sets of 28mm Napoleonic flags (amongst other items), currently each set is priced at GBP1.50. The flags look quite nice, though maybe a bit hard to see because of the watermarks on their site. However if you look at their gallery their are examples of non-Napolenics and a close up of the British Napoleonic flags and they do look very good.

The Portugese range:
There are currently 21 Portugese flag sets in the range priced at GBP1.50 for a set which consists of one King's Color and one Regimental Color plus the Regimental Cravat.
