OK so not Napoleonic's but as anyone who has seen my 28mm collection knows Renegade is the 'one' for me, I tend to buy anything they produce.
Well, they have just announced a 'new' range, and it's quite a surprise, almost as big a surprise as the Napoleonic's range was and I must say in my opinion more up their street than the Napoleonic's.
With the Perry's having this year released several WOTR plastic sets in 28mm who would have expected anyone to release a new metal range! I expect that as with the Napoleonic's, Renegade will design this range to match in with the Perry's figure, this will be great news as we will be able to mix and match between the two ranges and at GBP 0.43 per figure it is going to be a 'must have' range.
Actually I had been holding off on buying the Perry WOTR because I had enough to spend my money on with all the new Napoleonic's this year but now WOTR will be on my 'list' for 2011!
Renegade promise infantry soon with cavalry and field pieces to follow, and from what you can see of the green's they do look fantastic, on first look's not your typical 'Renegade' style at all.
What is more they have the 5-4-4 offer (5 for the price of 4) back on across all their range's so whether it's the new WOTR or the Napoleonic's its GBP 12.95 for 24 foot or 8 mounted.
You do wonder whether the Renegade guys have their own secret Tin mine in Cornwall that makes them immune to the economics that every other miniatures manufacturer works under.
Can't wait!

Renegade - Pics of Napoleonic Cavalry
First pics of the new Renegade Napoleonic cavalry are up on their site.
As I suspected the horses are EBob licensed, 3 poses are shown, the figures are distinctly Renegade, sculpted to be size compatible with Perry and cheap! The cavalry are not as yet up in the Regiments section, so maybe email them if you need to order now or wait a little while longer and I am sure they will appear.

Renegade Update - New Miniatures, New Prices Part2
I received an email yesterday from Renegade, you can also see the announcement on TGN here.
You may recall I posted their last announcement a week or so back where they said they were reducing the size of their 'Regiments' down to 20 figures from 24, and I mentioned at the time that I didn't like the idea, 24 is just so much more convenient than 20 and I would have preferred to pay more and keep the 24 man Regiments.
Well seems a lot of people felt the same and Renegade listened.
From their announcement:
As you know a week or so ago we e-mailed you about our foot regiments composition changing from 24′s to 20′s. This is in response to the massive increases to metal prices, which we’ve been swallowing for the last couple of years.
However, many of you responded to let us know that 24′s are far preferable to the 20′s for your regiment construction.
So we have decided to keep the foot regiments to 24′s and increase the regiment price by £1 to £12.95 (only 4p more per miniature).
This will take place on the 1st October.
So get your orders in now to qualify for the current price of £11.95.. plus don’t forget that our 5-4-4 offer is still available.
- Buy any 4 regiments and receive a fifth of your choice for free.
New28mm Napoleonics – Available this weekend.
Great News!!
... and finally we have the cavalry ...
I asked Eliot for pics of the new figures for the blog but unfortunately we have to wait a couple of days, as he replied "Pictures of new cavalry codes as well as new advancing, kneeling and firing line should be up early next week." .
Anyway check them out and place you orders, you need to hurry becuase the new pricing kicks in in less than a week. Renegade can be found here.

Renegade Update - New Releases and Price Rise
Some news from Renegade:
OK so when the Hussars are out next week we will take a look at them but it is great to hear they will finally arrive, though with the Perry's announcement of plastic Hussars a few days ago it shows once again life is very tough for anyone that gets in front of the Perry juggernaut.
Now the price rise, yes very understandable, everything is going up in price at the moment and big discount items are the most under pressure because they don't have a lot of padding to absorb a cost rise, we are seeing gradually all the figure manufacturers put there prices up, except Perry of course.
However far be it from me to run someone else business but I would have preferred they went the route of actually putting prices up rather than reducing the numbers in the pack, basically because 24 was a very nice unit size and 20 isn't and it also means that my older units and newer ones will be incompatible. So just to remind the price of a 'Regiment' is currently GBP11.95 for a pack of 24 figures including command, the new 'price' will be GBP11.95 for a pack of 20 including command.
Good to hear the 5-4-4 deal is still, on so that's a 20% discount though GBP at 1.55 compared to the recent low at 1.42 is +10% or compared to last years 1.35 low is +15%, whether we see those lows or not any time soon or ever again is your call (obviously only relevant to overseas customer like me).
Well what to do, with lots of new Napoleonic stuff on the horizon I would have preferred to put my money elsewhere just right now, but the looming 20% effective rise in Renegade make me think I should dive in and grab some more while I can.
When looking at the announcement for the new eBob Horses I noticed this picture. Am I mistaken or is that not a Renegade British Infantry figure standing in between the horses and is he there just for effect or does this signify that Renegade are also using eBob's horses for the Napoleonic range?
I do hope so as we have all felt in the past that Renegade horses were not exactly the best on the market. Makes me anticipate the arrival of the Hussars even more!
Hi All,
New Napoleonic Hussars out Next Week
..Napoleonic Household Cavalry out very soon after.
Regiment News:
Due to the insurmountable rise in the price of metal, we are having to reduce all our infantry regiments on all ranges to 20's. Still exceptional value, we think!
These changes will occur on the 1st October.
So you still have time, throughout September, to get your foot regiments at the current amount of 24's.
Plus.. don't forget our 5-4-4 offer is still available:
For every 4 regiments/blisters you order, you can choose a fifth regiment/blister of your choice for Free! This offer is available across all our ranges.

Perry Prussian and Renegade British Napoleonic's
Yes I know, hardly news at this point, Perry have finally gotten round to those Prussians!
Alan Perry:
The most common question we've been asked over the last two years is, quite rightly, 'when are you going to make Prussians!' At last, they're here! Well, the three-up's for the plastics are, anyway. These are in the tooling process at the moment, so we have no release date.
The set will comprise 40 Line Musketeers/Grenadiers, plus a detachment of six Volunteer Jaegers which were often attached to regiments. The 40 infantry will give you a full-strength battalion at 20:1 (for man-sized games), although we will be making the command frame available to buy separately too (direct from us) for those who use a different ratio. This is something we'll be doing for the other Napoleonic sets.
I've gone for the traditional march-attack pose for the line infantry and, as they're advancing at speed, I've made the Jaegers 'at trial', firearms in one hand and their Hirschlangers in the other (!). There will be a metal conversion pack to make the musketeers/grenadiers into fusiliers, too. A metal range will accompany this plastic set, and will possibly be available prior to this set.
There will be enough heads with covered shakos for all the figures in the box. In addition, there will be heads with the Line Feldmutze and peaked Schirmutze for the Jaegers, as some units had them. Likewise, the Jaeger belly pouch is separate, as some Volunteer Jaeger units had them. With all the faces, I've tried to give them a Germanic look.
Most figures are in three pieces, as we realize people like to build up units quickly, so you'll get head, equipment (knapsack, haversack, cartridge box, short sword and half the greatcoat are in one piece) and body to put together.
The command frame comprises one officer, one standard bearer, one drummer and an NCO.
As soon as we have finished sprues, I'll put them up on our website and TMP.
First, this is a really big undertaking, you can't just do one box of plastics, you need cavalry, guns, limbers, caissons, more infantry, command, personalities etc. and they do promise a 'metal range' to go along with this set, so this is going to keep the boys very busy for a few years to come at least!
Then this set is marked as "1813-1815" which is really goods news if they stick to this as this nicely opens up the whole 1813 'War of Liberation' and the 1814 'Invasion of France' rather than being locked into a couple of pointless battles in 1815, that is what makes this announcement so 'big'. So maybe we can then hope for late-period Austrians at some point?
These sculpts are as ever beautifully executed, the right poses for plastic and to 'bulk out' an army. The Prussians were always in a hurry where ever they were going, weren't they, and these look like they are too. They seem to have captured the shako perfectly and I love the Jaeger's, simply perfect, though I would like to see a metal selection to go along side these to add variety. Personally I hope we don't see cavalry in plastic, metal is superior and especially for lower volume items it must make more sense.
It's also good news that this is from Perry and not Victrix, "Most figures are in three pieces, as we realize people like to build up units quickly", Perry do so "get it". As I have said before I really worry for Victrix, especially as their problem is not the quality, they are excellent sculpts, it is just they don't seem to quite get what is needed and Perry are killers, that is why I think Victrix should go all metal, there is room for more metal manufacturers, but I am not sure about there being room for any other (profitable) plastic manufacturer than Perry in Napoleonics, and whilst we are talking of Victrix... guys, where are the horses for those limbers!!!!
Now no date as to 'when' but since they stated "Zouaves in February" it must mean later than that and as they usually take 6-9 months to go from green to in your hand then we should probably expect April/May next year. They also mention metals might be released earlier, maybe a nice xmas gift I wonder?
So what of Calpe, the company that is synonymous with "Prussian Napoleonics", well it depends on whether you see Calpe and Perry as being compatible in the first place, personally I never have, I believe Calpe are beautiful 'big' 28's, and fit perfectly with Front Rank, but Perry are thinner, smaller and as such I don't see these two will be eating each others markets.
Renegade:
Just a little bit of news here, more on this in the next week or two, but the 5-4-4 deal is back on (like you ever thought it wouldn't return) and after some revamping of other lines (I don't know which ones yet), the 28mm Household Cavalry are back on the table and hopefully will be available to order next week, so look out for some pics very soon. If you didn't know Renegade's 28mm metal Napoleonic's are designed specifically to match Perry plastics so they are there to add further variety and are really, really cheap. The site is not updated yet but I guess it will be soon.

Renegade Update - Free Regiment Offer - ends July 31st
I just received an email update from Renegade Miniatures:
Just a quick reminder that our 5-4-4 offer ends July 31st.
So hurry, as you can still receive a Free Regiment or Blister of your choice for every 4 that you order.
That's just 39p per foot! - 28mm Metal Miniatures.
For every 4 Regiments ordered - Pick a Fifth for Free (only 1 cavalry regiment per deal)
For every 4 Blisters ordered - Pick a Fifth for Free
This offer is available across ALL of our ranges.
CWS / PUNIC / SAXONS / ECW / NAPS / ACW / WW1 / WW2
New Napoleonics - just around the corner!
New Cavalry - Household & Hussars
New Foot - Firing Lines & New Command
Well, we never like price increases, I wonder though whether this will prove only to be a short term thing and the 5-4-4 deal will be back on again in the Autumn, I hope so, anyway its about time I spent some money elsewhere don't you think.
The sharp rise in the GBP in the last few weeks hasn't helped unfortunately, up 7% from last months lows, so I hope it might drop a little in the next few days before I need to place an order.
Also I should mention that Renegade deliver very promptly these days, when they first slashed the prices last year they were swamped and it too a while to catch up and again in April combination of shows and the ash cloud again lead to delays but they are really fast now, not that I care, I always tell them to put my order at the bottom of the pile.
The question is what to order next?
Saxons still have the problem of nothing to fight against for the moment, as for Naps I am waiting for the new releases, for WWI I have enough if I am limiting myself to skirmish games, so looks like ACW, ECW or Punic.

Renegade Update

News from Renegade Miniatures of an update to their 28mm range.
Napoleonics:
We've now added Advancing and Kneeling Firing (both flank and centre) packs/regiments to the range.
We'll also see the Household Cavalry (Command, Shouldered Arms & Charging) out very soon.
Followed shortly by Hussars, British Infantry Firing Line and more Command.
We've really enjoyed putting this range together and expect to see things take apace with Limbers, Horse Artillery, Mtd. Colonels and the 95th all in the pipeline.
Chinese:
We're also working on adding Chariots to our CWS range; we'll keep you informed of their progress.
Cavalry Regiments
We here at Renegade pride ourselves on bringing you high quality miniatures, both in design and of cast - at exceptionally low prices! But, we feel we have to reduce our cavalry regiments from 9 to 8 per regiment. The insurmountable cost of metal has forced our arm and we only hope you still agree - £11.95 for a regiment of quality 28mm metal miniatures is still, very, very good indeed.
We'll be reducing the contents to eight Cavalry per regiment as from the 1st of July.
So get them in now whilst they're 9's!
New Range:
Last, but not least.. We've been hard at work over the Spring and hope to bring you news on an entirely new range of miniatures, along with some additions to our current ranges asap.
Well thats great news indeed!
I know someone out there will be over the moon to hear about finally getting some CWS Chariots though for a some reason CWS is just not my thing.
Ha! Napoleonics, be still my beating heart, what with Limbers and RHA it certainly seems these guys are serious about creating a line of Napoleonics not just the odd figure or two, I can't wait to my hands on these!
So what of the new Range, what will it be, more Ancients or new Medievals or finally are we going to see the Saxons have some opposition (yeah!), what do you think?
Now the price rise, note this applies to Punic Wars, ECW and WWI only, the other ranges were already 8 to a pack, any price rise sucks but to be honest at these prices you can't complain really.
Exciting times for Renegade fans!
